Virginia Assessment for Literacy - Updated and Expanded

We are excited to partner with you in supporting evidence-based reading instruction in Grades 4-8. The 4-8 VALUE Series includes short introductory videos, infographics, recorded webinars, and other instructional resources to support literacy instruction for students in Grades 4-8. We also provide Professional Learning Guides to structure and scaffold opportunities for teachers to learn more about a specific topic or skill area as it relates to instruction. Many of these resources are also differentiated based on the typical needs of students in upper elementary (Grades 4 and 5) and the needs of students in middle school (Grades 6-8). We hope these resources support your efforts to help teachers as they align their evidence-based reading instruction across grade bands.

All VALUE Professional Development modules are optional to support knowledge building in evidence-based literacy instruction aligned to science-based reading research. Offerings are not required under the Virginia Literacy Act Professional Development requirements. VLP does not provide a certificate of completion or a tracking system for VALUE modules.
