Virginia Language & Literacy Screening System (VALLSS): Grades 4-8
As part of the requirements set forth in the Virginia Literacy Act, the Virginia Literacy Partnerships (VLP) is expanding their suite of measures to include VALLSS: 4-8. VALLSS: 4-8 will be used to identify relative strengths and weaknesses in specific literacy skill areas, including both code-based and language comprehension skills. As the majority of students who participate in VALLSS: 4-8 are students who are already experiencing reading difficulty according to their results on the English SOL, VALLSS: 4-8 is designed to provide a better understanding of why students are experiencing difficulty, which can be used to guide instruction for improved reading outcomes. See the VALLSS: 4-8 FAQ for more information
